Tanjong Jara Resort
Dungun, Terengganu
Opened on 1 March, 1979, the Tanjong Jara Resort was formerly owned
by The Tourist Development of Malaysia (TDC). YTL Hotels & Properties
later took over the management of this Resort and initiated a plan
for the extensive refurbishment of the property to restore it to
a deluxe international resort. It is now one of the Small Luxury
Hotels of the World.
This vision of an exclusive resort in Terengganu was based on the
belief that the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia was fast developing
as a significant destination for tourism. The challenge in the major
refurbishment and renovation exercise was to preserve Tanjong Jara's
17th century traditional Malay architectural structures, which won
the coveted Aga Khan Award for Architecture. The design of this
Resort is derived from the elegantly crafted wooden palaces of Malay
sultans from long ago and involved extensive research into traditional
forms of craftsmanship, mainly from the East Coast of Malaysia.
The Malay culture and heritage are clearly present in every aspect
of this Resort, from the way the rooms and suites are designed,
the elaborate details in the woodwork, to the Gamelan music played
every evening. Tanjong Jara Resort promises you an experience that
is "Unmistakably Malay".

The Nelayan
"Nelayan" is Malay for "Fisherman", and
seafood is indeed the speciality of this outlet, with its relaxed
and informal atmosphere. Situated by the sea, a variety of local
and Western light meals are served for lunch. The Resort's own
fishermen bring in the catch of the day for dinner. When the
weather permits, a delightful alfresco dining experience is
featured on the beach amidst a bonfire, bamboo torches and the
gentle sound of the waves. |

Beca (Trishaw)
This mobile bar, in the form of a trishaw, makes its hourly
rounds along the promenade overlooking the sea. It serves soft

The Tanjong Club
The award-winning Tanjong Club is a complex of structures, gardens
and pools, housing a state-of-the-art gym, and a therapy centre
that features programmes for relaxation and stress relief. Based
on Malay healing treatments, traditional Malay medicine and
treatment is a national treasure house of Malay health disciplines
that have been handed down from generation to generation. With
a history of more than a thousand years, the practice is believed
to have its origin in the convergence of Malay, Arab, Indian
and Chinese influence during the days of the Melaka Sultanate.
At the Tanjong Club, these long held health and beauty secrets
are revived. Treat yourself to the rich traditional formulation
of age-old customs, a unique blend of natural ingredients found
in various indigenous herbs and plants as well as remedies for
total health and beauty in the authentic Malay tradition. As
a memento of your experience with us at Tanjong Jara, a Batik
Sarong is presented daily with treatments. |
