The Andaman Datai Bay
Langkawi Island, Kedah
The Andaman resort
is a true five-star rainforest nestled amongst natural flora on
the banks of Datai Bay. Its 181 deluxe rooms, seven spacious suites
and three quality restaurants look over a panorama of exotic Fern
Palms and buttressed Keruing trees populated with unique fauna,
much of it endemic to this forest alone. In concert with its natural
surroundings a stream flowing through the site is represented
by fish pools, a sculptured water cascade, a brook bubbling beneath
terrace tables and stone rapids to a delta-shaped swimming pool.

 | danieloon | | Awesome ambience, lovely swimming pool, nice beach and de most lovely staff. Reception assistant manager (Perlis girl) is de best hotel staff I ever met. She's resourceful, pleasant, efficient & speaks English well. Also a slim & pretty lady indeed. Others include Conceirge mgr (Elias), Transport (Rosli), Beach restaurant mgr (S. Amir) are all great too. Amir helped me to book Gulai House (of Datai Hotel). The most amazing experience we had was there's no mosquito not any sand fly in our 4 days there even though the hotel is nestled in the midst of thick equatorial forest & long sandy coastline. The swimming pool is beautiful, nice amoebic shape & very shady. We saw squirrels jumping from one tree to the other in the swimming pool which has a nice jacuzzi too. Only setback is the restaurant. Local delights tasted salty like sambal ikan bilis, sambal udang & beef rendang & they don't taste good too as versus those small huts along the roads, quite disappointing. After the 2nd day, food seems boring because the spread is narrow, same old thing. And not justifying the hefty price for breakfast. I suggest kids should get free breakfast instead of RGT45 as they eat very little. Kudos to the fruit purchaser, all the 4 fruit juices were fresh & sweet (not many hotels can attain this standard consistently). I'm also disappointed with the Aussie chef who came out to attend to my request of boiled softeggs. He made 3 times & still could'nt get it right after trying 8 mins, 4 mins & 2 mins, I gave up after waiting patiently for 35 mins. Room is nice, towels are fluffy & soft. We were put off with the smell of he shampoo & bath gel. Sliding doors creaked & tracks rusty. Beach is utterly beautiful, broad enough for kids to build sand castles & to stroll & jog to a long 1 km stretch. Wave was 4ft high (in June) but we can still wade to our waist high at 30ft away. Unfortunately, 6 ft away from shore, there are several rows of sharp rocks underneath the water which can endanger both kids & adults. Restaurant staff are polite but some can be slow to replenish water. Thanks to Tina (Indonesian), Albert (Penangite) & few good Filipina waitresses. Maintenance staff are efficient. Overall, Andaman is excellent but food can be more justifiable if only 20% less. The location is at the end-of-the-world so either rent-a-car or it can be inconvenient to travel in & out to other places in Langkawi.

| aidomuah | | The view is breath taking & very romantic.I absolutely love the pool since it was too hot to go to the beach, unless you wanna go swim at night. The location is perfect for people who loves nature (you can see huge lizards & flying squirrel at the hotel compound) & wants to enjoy peace & quiet.Just look out for monkeys & mosquitos. The food is great...especially at Gulai's House.but the place is 300m from the end of the Hotel so dont wear heels because you'll be hurting your feet walking in those sands.Despite all that,I do wish the housekeeping cleans our room before we got back from lunch...and a shuttle service to kuah town, instead of renting our own car will be very hospitable.Anyway,Andaman is not suitable for those who wants to shop all those duty free plates & bowls because it is quite far from town.Altogether I can say I enjoy the hotel even if they put me,a pregnant mother of a 1 year old to the furthest room in the hotel...Maybe they think I'm fat & should get some exercise.hehe.
