Visitors from Penang can take a daily ferry to Langkawi. The ferry operates once a day and the ride takes about three hours. Langkawi is also easily accessible by ferry from neighbouring Satun (Thailand). This journey takes about 30 minutes.

The North-South Expressway - from Kuala Lumpur to Perlis - is a five-hour journey, after which you have to board a ferry to the island. Buses, taxis and rent-a-car services are easily available from all city centres on the mainland.
