Confidence pays off for beauty contestant
THE girls had different takes on what constitutes a healthy and beautiful body, but in the end it was Yuanie Kung Hai Yuan, 22, who stole the show with her answer.

Kung, a student, was declared winner of the Miss Marigold Body Beautiful, a subsidiary title of the Miss Malaysia Pageant 2008.
She beat 14 other finalists who were vying for the subsidiary title held at the 1-Utama Shopping Centre recently.
Speaking confidently during the self-introduction session, Kung introduced herself by saying, “Hello everyone, my name is Hai Yuan but you can call me Yuanie for short. I like ballroom dancing and what keeps me going for classes is a good body workout and a glass of Marigold HL Low Fat Milk every day.”
With a vital statistics of 31-26-37.5, Kung seems to glow with a healthy radiance on stage.
She walked away with a RM1,000, a Marigold hamper, a sash and trophy.
S.B. Cheah, general manager of Cotra Enterprises Sdn Bhd, the distributor of Malaysia Milk fortified dairy products and juice drinks, said as a manufacturer which believed in promoting healthier eating habits and a shapelier physique, sponsoring beauty pageants had long been a tradition with Malaysia Milk.
“Our company has been associated with numerous events like the Miss Malaysia Universe Pageant, Miss Tourism International, Miss Malaysia Top Model of the World, Miss Malaysia Model of the World and Miss Malaysia International Model of the Year,” said Cheah.
Judges for the event were Cheah, Marigold HL Milk deputy general manager Michael Ong, 1-Utama Shopping Centre advertising and promotions manager Patrick Soo, former Miss Malaysia Rachel Ng and model and actress Carla Soong.
The finalists were judged on criteria like overall body proportion, poise and beauty.
Following the introduction, the women were then divided into three groups for the fitness wear session to perform three dance routines — the first group did the cheerleading dance, the second did a yoga dance and the final group showed some aerobic dance moves.
This was followed by the evening wear session where the finalists paraded on stage in elegant and beautiful gowns.
During the final part of the evening gown parade, it was interrupted shortly by a technical sound problem and resumed about 10 minutes later.
A question-and-answer session was held for the public, shortly before the winners were announced.
